Dr. Vipin Kumar is the Director and Chief Innovation Officer at National Innovation Foundation –India, an autonomous body of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. His research and interests are the incubation and promotion of inclusive and frugal innovations and outstanding traditional knowledge by way of value addition, intellectual property protection, business development, commercialization and social diffusion; developing open source technologies, which can be used for people to people dissemination under open innovation framework for generation of employment opportunities for many, reduce cost and/or improve environmental conditions; conservation and prospecting of biodiversity. Dr. Kumar has published over 100 research and review papers in the journals of national and international repute. He has worked as a member of various prestigious institution/committees of Department of Biotechnology, Protection of Plant Variety and Farmer’s Rights Act, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Indian Council of Medical Research, National Biodiversity Authority, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Govt. of India, Department of Science and Technology, US-India Science and Technology Endowment Board (USISTEB), Grassroots Innovation Augmentation Network (GIAN), State Science & Technology/Innovation Councils etc.

Dr. Kumar helped in launching the second phase of Micro Venture Innovation Fund, the first of its kind at NIF with the support of Small Industrial Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and managed it with the help of a Fund Management Committee. He also set up NIF Incubation and Entrepreneurship Council (NIFientreC), a Technology Business Incubator with the support of DST, Govt. of India, for promoting the entrepreneurship based on grassroots innovations.
